VARIETY: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, especially selected for this Family Selection wine.
HARVEST: This fruit was machine harvested in the first week of April.
VINTAGE NOTES: Generally speaking the 2012 Coonawarra Vintage has been hailed by all winemakers as an “excellent” one. The Coonawarra received good winter rains which helped fill the soil moisture profile. No frosts to speak of, but regular rains ensured the vines were ready to go. October saw the start of flowering, but above average windy days resulted in a below average set. Vaeraison commenced in mid January, a month probably warmer and drier than usual, and this resulted in much smaller, but more intense berries. Harvesting of this fruit began in early April.
NOTES: This is a deep crimson red wine with flecks of purple apparent. Spicy blackcurrant and dark bramble fruits fill the nose with hints of tobacco and cinnamon. The wine has a silky, vibrant palate of rich tannins while wonderfully weighted – just, yet dry and powerful to the finish. All the work is done for you, and this wine is ready to drink now, but can be cellared if you have the willpower.
SPECIAL NOTE: This Family Selection “MICRON” wine will only be made in vintages of exceptional fruit quality. Just 100 cases of this high quality wine were bottled. Our 2012 Gammon’s Crossing Cabernet won 7 Gold Medals – an outstanding effort.
