Our Wines

The MICRON:  2012 CABERNET SAUVIGNON

REGION:  Coonawarra

VARIETY:  100% Cabernet Sauvignon, especially selected for this Family Selection wine.

HARVEST:  This fruit was machine harvested in the first week of April.

VINTAGE NOTES:  Generally speaking the 2012 Coonawarra Vintage has been hailed by all winemakers as an “excellent” one.  The Coonawarra received good winter rains which helped fill the soil moisture profile.  No frosts to speak of, but regular rains ensured the vines were ready to go.  October saw the start of flowering, but above average windy days resulted in a below average set.  Vaeraison commenced in mid January, a month probably warmer and drier than usual, and this resulted in much smaller, but more intense berries.  Harvesting of this fruit began in early April.

NOTES:  This is a deep crimson red wine with flecks of purple apparent.  Spicy blackcurrant and dark bramble fruits fill the nose with hints of tobacco and cinnamon.  The wine has a silky, vibrant palate of rich tannins while wonderfully weighted – just, yet dry and powerful to the finish.  All the work is done for you, and this wine is ready to drink now, but can be cellared if you have the willpower.

SPECIAL NOTE:  This Family Selection “MICRON” wine will only be made in vintages of exceptional fruit quality.  Just 100 cases of this high quality wine were bottled.  Our 2012 Gammon’s Crossing Cabernet won 7 Gold Medals – an outstanding effort.

2015 GAMMON’S CROSSING CABERNET SAUVIGNON

REGION:  Coonawarra

VARIETY:  100% single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from our own vineyard.

HARVEST:  The grapes were machine picked in the first week of April.

VINTAGE NOTES:  Fabulous early rains set the scene in the winter of 2014 for above average soil moisture to allow the vines to glide into Spring.  Spring was quite dry with little wind, which was ideal for an even fruit set.  An excellent January rain made conditions ideal for the fruit to ripen, combined with warm days and cooler nights, which then allowed nature to provide us with an excellent crop full of intense colour and varietal definition.

ALC/VOL:  15%

NOTES:  This is a typical Flints of Coonawarra Cabernet, beautifully balanced and rich in colour, with a great nose and length of palate.  This wine has matured in French Oak for twenty months prior to bottling, and let lay for a further eight months to maximise the full fruit flavours.  This wine can be enjoyed right now, but will also cellar well over the ensuing years.

2017 THE BACK LANE SAUVIGNON BLANC

REGION:  Coonawarra

VARIETY:   This wine is a blend of approximately 95% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Savagnin.

HARVEST:  The grapes were picked at the end of March.

VINTAGE NOTES:  The 2017 vintage provided numerous challenges for the winemakers in the Coonawarra, with rain falling consistently on a weekly basis.  This occurrence was not quite as regular in the early part of the vintage, which allowed the whites to ripen much more slowly in cooler conditions.  The fruit was picked toward the end of March, while still in good condition, fermented in stainless steel – then blended and bottled in late May.

ALC/VOL:  14.5%

NOTES:  This is a lovely refreshing wine, and shows full fruit flavours, which are also pleasant to the nose.  The style of this wine has changed slightly with the discovery of the Savagnin variety.  A close relative of Traminer, this grape has complemented the Sauvignon Blanc to create a beautiful, crisp, clean and palate-cleansing white wine.  Chilled, it’s a most elegant, refreshing drink.

15 ROSTREVOR SHIRAZ

REGION:  Coonawarra

VARIETY:   100% single vineyard Shiraz, sourced from our own vineyards.

HARVEST:  This fruit was picked by machine in the last week of April 2015.

VINTAGE NOTES:  Fabulous early rains set the scene in the winter of 2014 for ‘above average’ soil moisture, to allow the vines to glide in to Spring.  Spring was quite dry with little wind, which was ideal for an even fruit set.  An excellent January rain made conditions ideal for the fruit to ripen, combined with warm days and cooler nights, which then allowed nature to provide us with an excellent crop full of intense colour and varietal definition.

ALC/VOL:  14%

NOTES:  Shiraz from the Coonawarra is quickly picking up the pace with the more renowned Shiraz growing regions.  This elegant wine is one of those.  A lovely rich coloured wine with subtle hints of eucalypt, chocolate and pepper ensures a balanced wine with both structure and body.  The wine was matured for eighteen months in American Oak barrels prior to bottling.  Let rest in the bottle for a further six months, it is primed for your enjoyment.

2015 CLEANSKIN MERLOT

REGION:  Coonawarra

VARIETY:   100% single vineyard Merlot, sourced from our own vineyard.

HARVEST:  The Merlot grapes were picked in the last week of March.

VINTAGE NOTES:  Fabulous early rains set the scene in the winter of 2014 for ‘above average’ soil moisture, to allow the vines to glide into Spring.

NOTES:  Here is an easy drinking wine with great flavours and subtle oak penetration.  Given plenty of time to draw from the French oak barrels, this is a much called for lighter styled wine following in the footsteps of the renowned 2008 “Tricky Gate” Merlot.  Don’t be alarmed that this wine doesn’t have a label, because what is inside more than makes up for that…
